Actor pulls out of Puerto Rican Day Parade

NEW YORK

Parade producer Carlos Velasquez of G.A.L.O.S. Corp. said Tuesday that the actor has pulled out. Some critics had called for a boycott because Rios' history of domestic violence. At least one invited guest dropped out in protest.

Rios could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.

The actor is known for his work in telenovelas or Spanish-language soap operas. He was picked to be the international godfather of the annual event on Sunday.

The 49-year-old Rios was convicted on a domestic violence charge in 2003.

G.A.L.O.S. is a marketing agency and the producer of Hispanic-themed parades and festivals.
