One arrest in Coney Island shooting

CONEY ISLAND

One of the victims was a mother of seven.

The mother, who was just trying to get her children out of harms way, is now in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. The 36-year-old, identified as Victoria Rogucki, is clinging to life at Lutheran Hospital.

She was shot as she stepped out of her first-floor apartment at the O'Dwyer Garden Houses. She walked out in the middle of an argument involving her 16-year-old daughter and a man in the courtyard of the complex.

The woman's 19-year-old son, Lorenzo, also tried to intervene in the violent confrontation. That's when the gunfire erupted.

"They were arguing outside, and somebody there pulled out a gun and started shooting people," one witness said. "And she got hit in the head."

Detectives believe that there were 2 people that fired guns during this incident.

Police have arrested one of those individuals as the victim's son, 17-year Ishmel Rogucki. He is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The second individual has not been identified. Police have not been determined which person fired the shots that struck the victims.

Meanwhile, an accident took place 19 blocks away from the scene that appears to be connected to the shooting. Two people involved in the accident were injured in the shooting and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Another victim, who ran from the scene, suffered a graze wound to the neck. All the victims were brought to Lutheran Hospital.
