Woman says taxi driver attacked her

WHITE PLAINS

"Our detectives are out there right now, actively pursuing them," Capt Chris McNerney of the Greenburgh Police Department said.

Chris McNerney is heading up the investigation for the Greenburgh police department.

He says the victim had just hailed a cab in downtown White Plains at 2:30 Sunday morning.

The victim said she was overpowered and assaulted in the back seat of the cab before she was finally able to escape on Route 119 in Greenburgh.

McNerney said the cab driver sped away, while the woman walked a good distance before a Good Samaritan stopped and drove her to police headquarters.

Detectives say she was distraught. She was later taken to White Plains hospital, treated and then released.

Police are urging women to be alert.
