61-year-old Richard Lang was crushed by a heavy load while working near the Avenue M street station.
He was reportedly loosening the straps on his load of metal sheets when it shifted, sending the materials toppling onto him.
Emergency workers attempted to rescue Lang from under the load, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim works for a company and was contracted by the MTA.
