Conn. fertility center fined for embryo mistake

FARMINGTON, Conn.

The Center for Advanced Reproductive Services at the University of Connecticut Health Center signed a consent order agreeing to pay a $3,000 fine, but did not admit wrongdoing.

The Hartford Courant reported the fine in its Saturday editions.

Records from the state Department of Public Health say a lab technician did not do the proper checks when taking the embryos from storage. That worker has been reassigned.

The patient who received the embryos was informed of the error within an hour and decided to take the "morning-after" pill to prevent the pregnancy.
