Landscaper arrested on illegal fireworks charges

Illegal fireworks have landed a Suffolk County landscaper in big trouble.

Police arrested Frank Benedetto, 66, of Great River for possessing approximately $20,000 worth of fireworks at his landscaping business.

Detectives said the found approximately 250 cases of fireworks, including rockets and Whistle Blasters at Frank Benedetto Landscaping, located at 2975 Sunrise Highway, Islip Terrace on Saturday.

Benedetto was charged with unlawfully dealing with fireworks and was issued several summonses from the Islip Town Fire Marshal's office for fire code violations.

He was released on stationhouse bail pending a hearing in Central Islip at a later date.

The Suffolk County Police Department is asking anyone with information on illegal fireworks to call 631-852-COPS.
