More officers on patrol for Tuesday commute

The NYPD will deploy approximately 100 officers from its Counterterrorism, ESU, K9, Transit and plainclothes units Tuesday morning in Penn Station, Grand Central Station and Herald Square as part of the second Operation RAIL SAFE (Regional Alliance Including Local, State, and Federal Efforts) to take place this year.

Beginning at approximately 7 a.m., commuters will experience increased police presence; bag screenings and inspections of train and subway cars. Participating agencies include Amtrak, MTA, Port Authority and NJ Transit police; National Guard; TSA and the New York State Office of Homeland Security.

In addition, law enforcement in Boston, Newark, New Jersey; Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington DC will conduct similar patrols in their respective transit hubs.
