20th anniversary of fire house reopening

Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of the reopening of Engine Company 41 in the South Bronx.

Back in 1990, Mayor David Dinkins allowed the FDNY to reopen the fire station.

It had been closed by Mayor Ed Koch a year earlier because of budget cuts.

The reopening was a victory for both firefighters and South Bronx residents.

Residents say the fire station has helped so many people in the neighborhood from children to the elderly.

People of all ages came out to the station to celebrate Saturday.
