Frank Brugge of Rockville Centre has been charged with robbery in the third degree.
Police say the 58-year-old suspect entered a Capital One bank in North Lynbrook and gave the teller a note.
The teller then handed over some money and the suspect fled.
An off-duty police officer followed the suspect and saw him take off his wig and throw it away.
The officer then arrested Brugge.
