Girl sexually assaulted in Brooklyn elevator

BROOKLYN

Police got forensics from the elevator and hope that will soon lead to an arrest, but they can also use the public's help on the case.

Detectives are trying to get the suspect off the streets before he strikes again.

Police released a sketch of the man they are looking for.

Just minutes before 8 a.m. Sunday, police say the man approached an 11-year-old girl, and at gunpoint, forced her into an elevator and sodomized her.

Neighbors at the Kingsborough houses in Weeksville are disgusted.

"My mom comes over, my nieces come over. I'm afraid for them. I hope you'll catch him," said Jermaine Mabry.

"I saw a lot of cops out there. Around the elevator they were there all day. I asked what was going on and they wouldn't say," said Donna, a resident.

"I've been in this building 11 years and never been a problem. So it was a shock to me," said Duprey, another resident.

The brave girl was able to give detectives a good description.

The suspect is about 30 years old, 5-foot 10-inches tall and 200 pounds.

He was wearing a leather baseball hat, blue jeans and a brown and white strip shirt.

He's also described as having a Caribbean accent.

Neighbors say cops do a good job of patrolling the area, but tenants make it unsafe by not locking the main entrance.

"You got people around here that snatch doors open. That leave little things in the door so that people can get in. We have police protection around here but it seems like it wasn't the right time," said resident, Larry Fennel.

If you have any information you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
