Deaths of couple at Newark hotel ruled homicide

NEWARK

Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino said Wednesday that an autopsy determined that the pair had been killed. He would not comment on the cause of death.

Newark police said a maintenance man found the bodies of 55-year-old Adrian Price and 42-year-old Towanna Freeman inside their sixth-floor room at the Riviera Hotel Tuesday morning after guests complained of a foul odor.

The couple had been living at the hotel since December.

Authorities said Freeman was pregnant in her second trimester. Under New Jersey law, the fetus is not considered a homicide victim.

No one has been arrested.
