State police and weather officials say a series of severe thunderstorms moved across Connecticut Wednesday afternoon, knocking down trees and utility wires and blowing out windows.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.

The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for Litchfield, Hartford and New Haven counties during the afternoon and there were unconfirmed reports of a tornado in Litchfield County.

Weather officials won't be able to confirm that a tornado struck until they conduct a survey Thursday.

Television reports showed a roof of a gas station collapsed on Route 6 in Bristol, and merchants in that town cleaning up glass from some blown out windows.

Middletown police said lightning hit a house just after 5 p.m. causing some damage.
