Residents allowed back after parking garage collapse

Residents will finally get back into the apartments they fled after a parking garage collapse in Hackensack, New Jersey.

The return, however, is only temporary.

People are being given just enough time to grab essential possessions.

They can expect to be kept out of their Prospect Avenue high-rise for at least another six to eight weeks.

No one was injured when a 20-foot long steel and plexiglass canopy and two floors of the three-level garage partially collapsed last Friday. A second section came down Saturday, severing utility lines.

City inspectors haven't found anything serious after checking similar garages in other buildings.
