Child in car calls 911 to report drunk mom

A woman from Long Island was arrested for drunk driving after her own child called the police.

Jamie Hicks, 49, dodged our camera and our questions this afternoon as she walked to her home in Islip.

The mother of two was charged with driving drunk with her children ages 10 and 12 in the car.

Police said it was Hicks' 12-year-old daughter who called 911 and stayed on the phone with a dispatcher until Hicks was pulled over on I-84 in Brewster.

Police say the 12 year old was screaming during the call saying her mother had slurred speech and was weaving in and out of traffic.

Hicks allegedly had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit while driving with kids on the busy I-84.

What's even more disturbing, police say the terrified girl told the dispatcher her mom was hitting her during the phone call.

Hicks was arrested on day before the anniversary of the Taconic tragedy. Diane Schuler was drunk and high when she packed her minivan with children, drove the wrong way on the Taconic State Parkway and crashed in an accident that killed eight people.

Hicks was charged with felony DWI under Leandra's Law.
