An old scam is getting new life on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say cell phone text messages are being used to trick people into revealing personal information, such as passwords and account numbers.

The messages appear to come from banks, government agencies and credit card companies.

They usually claim to need the information to update databases or to fix an account problem.
