Police say the 37-year-old victim was attacked on 20th Avenue, near 84th Street, just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He was just a block from his apartment.
One person was taken into custody and being questioned in the attack. No charges were immediately filed.
The victim was South Asian and had been in America for just six months. However, it was not believed to be a bias crime.
