Smoking passenger diverts JFK flight to New Mexico

NEW MEXICO

A spokesman for Albuquerque International Sunport says Flight 117 from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport landed without incident at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after the smell of smoke or some sort of fumes was reported in the cabin.

Officials say a passenger was smoking on the flight. They add there were no reports of injuries among the 169 passengers and crew.

Jiron says the plane is being thoroughly checked before it's cleared to take off.
