Prosecutors say 26-year-old Bernard Howell slashed the throat of 60-year-old Vanda Boone.
Boone had just moved to the area from Long Island City.
Police found her body wrapped in plastic in the front seat of Howell's truck this weekend.
Howell told police at that time he was burying the woman for her family in order to save them $5,000.
