Devere L. Hatchett, 52, was arrested on Thursday at approximately 8:50 p.m. at the Garden State Motor Lodge on Route 22 in Union.
He was taken into custody by the United States Marshal Services assisted by law enforcement officers from the Essex County Prosecutors Office Special Victims Unit and Professional Standard Bureau.
Hatchett has been charged with sexually assaulting a female who was a contract employee at Northern State Prison. He was was taken into custody without incident and is currently at the Essex County Correctional Facility. Bail has been set at $100,000.
He is charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault, one count of third-degree criminal restraint and three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, according to Assistant Prosecutor Celeste M. Montesino.
