Chinese student in Newark airport breach fined

NEWARK, N.J.

The civil penalty from the Transportation Security Administration ends the case against Haisong Jiang. TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis said Friday that the amount could not be disclosed for privacy reasons.

Jiang, who's from China, has admitted he ducked under a rope at Newark Liberty Airport on Jan. 3 and entered a restricted area to spend extra time with his girlfriend, who was leaving for California.

The Rutgers University doctoral student had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in March. He has performed 100 hours of community service and was also fined $658 by local authorities.
