Teens charged with vandalism on Long Island

HUNTINGTON

The suspects damaged 25 vehicles on Saturday night alone, police said.

Second Precinct Police Officer James Rochford spotted a vehicle that had been seen following several acts of criminal mischief early Sunday.

The 2009 Nissan SUV was found on Oakwood Road near Pulaski Road in Huntington.

The officer found Jake Cassidy, 18, and a 14-year-old boy inside the vehicle.

The two were arrested and charged with damaging a 1995 Volvo 850 at 69 Maple Place, Huntington, on August 22.

Detectives determined that the two were behind other acts of vandalism in the Huntington, Lloyd Harbor and Cold Spring Harbor communities during the past month.

Police charged each of the teens with 12 counts of criminal mischief. Cassidy is also charged with soliciting the 14-year-old to commit a felony.

Cassidy was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.

The juvenile was released into the custody of his parents and will appear at Family Court in Hauppauge at a later date.
