It took firefighters hours to put out a large pier fire on Manhattan's West Side.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at 57th Street and 12th Avenue.

It went to three alarms.

Smoke could be seen for several blocks on the West Side.

Pier 97 is a sanitation pier.

It appears garbage started burning inside some trailers located on the pier and then quickly spread to the pier itself.

Three firefighters were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
