A homeowner who grabbed a rifle from his house and fired warning shots in a confrontation with a group of men on his Long Island lawn has been released on $10,000 bond.

George Grier was arraigned Monday after being arrested on reckless endangerment and weapons-possession charges. His lawyer and prosecutors didn't immediately return telephone calls.

His sister says he feared for his family's safety during the encounter Sunday outside his Uniondale home.

Police say the 30-year-old Grier argued with a large group of men on his front lawn, then fired into the air and ground. No one was hurt.

Grier's sister says about 20 strangers converged on the lawn and wouldn't leave after two of them started quarreling with one another.
