LIRR employees brace for another round of layoffs

Roughly 100 Long Island Rail Road employees are bracing for a round of layoffs that begin Friday.

Twenty-four LIRR employees will lose their jobs, and the railroad expects to lay off another 74 employees next week.

Some of those laid off are workers who helped restore service after an electrical fire damaged a signal station last month.

The layoffs come as the MTA continues to try and close a $900 million budget gap.
