Amy Kowalewski is accused in robberies in Huntington on September 12 and September 14.
A driver for the Orange and White Taxi company picked up a fare on Lantern Street in Huntington at approximately 12:05 a.m. Tuesday in response to a call made by the suspect.
Police say Kowalewski slashed the driver, 60-year-old James Nugent,in the neck and hands with a kitchen knife as the cab approached Lafayette Street and Brooklyn Avenue. Kowalewski allegedly fled the scene after stealing cash from the driver.
Responding police officers located and arrested Kowalewski with the assistance of the canine unit at approximately 1:30 a.m.
Nugent was transported and admitted to Northport Veterans Administration Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
Second Squad detectives, who were investigating a similar taxi cab robbery that occurred in Huntington on September 12, 2010, charged Kowalewski with two counts of first-degree robbery.
