Police look for robber targeting elderly women

CONEY ISLAND

Police already have one man in custody and are now searching for another who was captured on surveillance cameras.

Police Commissioner Kelly say the suspect has been targeting women for two months.

"He's a coward, going after the elderly, c'mon!" area resident Donald Wallace.

Investigators say the suspects have been going after women in their 70s and 80s, between noon and 10 p.m., grabbing them in their buildings or even attacking them on the street.

"The police department has got to do something to help these people," said Sergei Katairaar, the son of one of the victims.

Katairaar says his mother was targeted and choked with her gold chain when the suspect grabbed it from behind.

The attacker cut her neck, kicked her and robbed her.

"He was with the chain back here, behind her," Katairaar said.

Police say the man they are looking for is around 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds

Valentina Rosowska says she does not feel safe because her neighbor, who uses a walker, was attacked twice.

"He bit her," Rosowska said. "In the leg, and then he knocked her and took her money."

She hopes everyone takes a long look and that someone calls police.

"He's horrible," she said. "She cannot move and she's sick. We got a precinct across the street so you can't get more of a presence than that. And old ladies? This guy is sick in the head."
