Police reportedly say thieves have been stealing more gadgets from subway riders.

The NYPD says major thefts in the subway in August were up nearly 15 percent from last year.

The department says much of the spike comes from people snatching cell phones or digital music players from riders near the doors during stops.

Police say major thefts for the year so far have also increased 2.5 percent.
