Police say the man was shot in the leg when a large number of officers descended on the house, on Highland Avenue, just after 5:30 a.m.
He was taken to University Hospital in Newark with a non-life threatening injury.
The suspect was believed to have been shot during the raid by a U.S. Marshal, who was not injured.
An Essex County Sheriff's Officer was injured during the arrest and was treated at the hospital.
