Progress report on Tappan Zee Bridge work

WHITE PLAINS, NY

Westchester lawmakers received the update from project managers who told them about the most current list of design approaches, financing options, scheduling and environmental reviews.

Officials say the costly rehab work on the 50-year-old span connecting Westchester and Rockland counties, which is already underway, was unavoidable.

"It was not designed to take the load and exposure that it is taking over the past 50 years, so it's been a confluence of factors, deterioration and some inherent design issues," said Michael Anderson, the project manager.

The Tappan Zee deck replacement project to replace the center three lanes will cost $150 million.
