Kravis is co-founder, co-chairman and co-CEO of a global investment firm, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
He also founded the New York City Investment Fund. Its mission is to create jobs and help sustain small inner-city businesses in New York.
Columbia Business School said in a statement Tuesday that it's the largest gift in the school's history.
