Rash of burglaries in Greenwich, CT neighborhood

GREENWICH, CT

The latest burglaries are similar to break-ins that happened earlier this year.

It's one of the most affluent areas in the country, but there's an increased police presence.

Back country Greenwich is what they call the wooded part of town where the houses are big, and the temptation is great for thieves.

On Saturday night: not one, but two burglaries happened within just a half hour of each other.

Police were called to Hunting Ridge Road just after 9 p.m. Saturday.

A homeowner had just arrived in his house and was startled to hear noises inside.

The suspect ran off in the woods.

A short time later, a second call came in from a nearby house that police believe had been broken into first.

Not only do investigators think Saturday's burglaries are related, they say a string of house break-ins earlier this year were likely committed by the same person or persons.

Police say the suspect makes off with whatever cash, jewelry and valuables he can carry.

So far, no one has been hurt, and the burglaries have all taken place when no one is home.

Police advise residents to make their homes "bad targets" by employing deterrents like motion sensors, alarms, and even dogs.
