"I'm really sorry. I'm really, really, sorry what happened to the man, but at the same time, he's supposed to read the sign," said Desiree Murray, the dogs' owner.
Several clearly posted signs along Desiree Murray's front yard that warn "beware of dog".
But the owner of Jing Lung Chinese Restaurant on nearby Nostrand Avenue apparently didn't heed those warnings as he passed out menu's Sunday morning.
When he entered the gated yard, the three pit bulls pounced.
"We eventually got the dogs off of him, but he already got bitten real bad. His arms his legs. I was protecting him so the dogs don't hurt him real bad like to kill him," Murray said.
Xiu Ming Li, 52, was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he underwent surgery and is reportedly recovering.
Police seized all three dogs.
They were taken to the city's animal care and control center in East New York, where one of the dogs has reportedly died.
Monday, the family of the victim refused to talk on camera, saying only that they are traumatized.
But Li's daughter, who works with him at the restaurant, has said her father doesn't understand signs.
Meanwhile, the dogs' owners insist they are not dangerous, but simply loveable pets protecting their territory.
"We really do want our dogs back because our dogs were just doing their jobs, because you're not supposed to come into someone's premises without permission," Murray said.
