Birth weight and verbal development

Researchers say a baby's birth weight can predict his or her future verbal development.

British researchers compared the verbal I.Q. scores of 71 pairs of identical twins at age 11.

The results are compelling.

For every pair, the twin who weighed more at birth had a higher score than the lighter twin.

Scientists say the study reinforces the importance of good prenatal nutrition to ensure a child's future cognitive and language skills.
