Two of the five wounded students remained in the hospital Friday night.
Police arrested five people in connection with the stabbings. The suspects were located in the Village of Liberty by Fallsburg police, state police and the Village of Liberty police hours after the violent end to the off-campus party.
"It was just fine until people started looking at people wrong and like hitting 'em. And people started taking out knives and started cutting people," Kelly Malave said.
Malave and several other SUNY Sullivan students were at the party at the off-campus Edgewood Dorms when suddenly things got ugly.
As police began responding, many at the party began running, leaving behind pieces of clothing and a bloody trail of violence.
"Consistent with stab wounds and we are not sure what caused the fight right now," Fallsburg Police Chief Simmie Williams said.
Five students were injured, two seriously. One with lacerations to his head was transported to Westchester Medical Center.
Police think more could have been injured.
"We're still looking for other injured people because we were following trails of blood throughout the roadway here," Williams said.
Some students say there were a number of others at the party from outside the college.
With very few classes held on Friday, there were very few students around, but word of the violence still spread quickly.
"I am sure some of the kids probably don't even go to school here," Kearya Sanders said.
All five of the injured were students.
"This is not a usual incident. An unfortunate incident. It happened off campus, but because they are our students, we're concerned about out students," Vincent Begley, S.C.C.C. spokesman, said.
The names of the suspects were not immediately released. They were charged with gang assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon.
