Members of the mosque in Huntington seemed to come and go as usual on Tuesday, but it's clear they are shaken by two possible hate crimes happening here within just days.
Vandals tossed a jar filled with nails into the driveway on Monday evening around 7:30. It was a repeat of last week's incident.
Investigators say the Masjid Noor mosque and its members were likely targeted. The broken glass and nails didn't damage the building, but some believe they are a symbol of growing hostility toward Islam and Muslims.
The crimes come after the uproar over plans to build a community center and mosque near Ground Zero
Neighbors say there was strong opposition to the opening of this mosque as well. People continue to complain about the traffic and noise.
A mosque official said that other vandalism has occurred in recent months, but police were only contacted for the first time last week.
