Halloween Parade preps with shorter route

The famous Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village will be a little shorter this year.

The route is now five blocks shorter because of the NYPD's new rule requiring all city parades to cut down their routes by 25 percent or be limited to five hours.

The cutbacks are expected to save the police department $3 million a year in overtime pay for extra officers.

This year, the parade runs up Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to 16th Street.
