DOE releases list of schools that could be phased out

New York City's education department today released a list of 47 schools that could be phased out because of students' poor academic achievement.

The Department of Education must decide if these struggling schools can improve or if they must be replaced with new schools.

Most serve high school students, but it includes nine middle schools and eight elementaries.

Officials must meet with parents, teachers and administrators before decisions are made, and the list could change based on new information.
