Fire tears through historic Queens church

A second-alarm fire tore through a church in the Laurelton section of Queens late Thursday.

The fire broke out inside St. Mary Magdalenes Church on 136th Avenue just before 11:30 p.m.

Heavy flames shot through the roof of the church and burned through much of the interior.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury battling the flames.

The church's organ dates to 1929.
