The Nassau County District Attorney has decided no criminal charges will be filed in connection with the drowning of a 12-year-old student during a school field trip.

Nicole Suriel, a student from the Columbia Secondary School in New York City, drowned in the waters off Long Beach in June.

Authorities said Monday, there is no evidence supporting criminality in the accidental death.

Although the water appeared to be calm and shallow, the drop off and currents were not obvious to swimmers unfamiliar with Long Beach.
