Keeping kids afloat by building boats

BRONX

First, they practice on dry land and then it's a short walk to the Bronx River.

What's extraordinary about this excursion is that the boats were made by other local kids in a program called Rocking The Boat.

Adam Green is the program's founder.

A volunteer experience during college led him to build a small boat with kids in Harlem.

That project resonated and now kids have been building boats under his watch for 14 years.

Many students work their way up to apprentice and program assistants. They say this program keeps them afloat.
