Police arrested Robert Elliott on Thursday and charged him with grand larceny, criminal mischief and possession of burglar's tools. He's set to be arraigned Friday.
It was not immediately known if he had retained a lawyer.
Police say the 24-year-old West Babylon suspect worked quickly and quietly, using a battery-operated reciprocating saw to steal the devices.
Authorities say the converters are valuable for their platinum, palladium, and rhodium and can be sold for scrap.
