2 killed in plane crash on NY-MA border identified

ALBANY, N.Y.

Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison Jr. said on Saturday that 64-year-old pilot John B. Welch and his 63-year-old passenger, Margaret Noonan, died in the single-engine plane crash.

Harrison said Welch lived in Concord, N.H.; Noonan was from West Stockbridge, Mass.

There were no other passengers onboard the plane that was discovered by a hunter near Catamount ski area Friday. It took hours for crews to get to the remote site.

National Transportation Safety Board investigator Robert Gretz says it's likely the plane crashed on Nov. 10. The plane had not been reported missing.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
