A wrong-way crash closed the eastbound LIE less than 24 hours after a fatal wrong-way crash killed a police officer. The car was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on the Long Island Expressway when it crashed into another vehicle in the vicinity of Exit 35 near Shelter Rock Road. The accident happened just after 5:00 a.m.

Police identified the wrong way driver as Katelyn A. O'Connell, 22, of Westbury. She was arrested for DWI and Reckless Endangerment.

She remained in custody at Winthrop Hospital where she was being treated for contusions and abrasions.

The other driver was not identified. He is a twenty-seven year old Glendale, New York resident. He was taken to North Shore University Hospital also with non-life threatening injuries.

The eastbound LIE was closed until about 10:40 a.m. That caused huge backups from Queens into central Nassau County on Long Island.

Early Monday morning, 35-year-old NYPD officer Andre Menzies, who was headed home from work, was killed in a crash on the Northern State Parkway. The surviving driver, 50-year-old Michael Bowen, was charged with driving drunk.
