Missing toddler found in pond alive

TRUMBULL

In just the blink of an eye this accident occurred in neighboring Trumbull.

A frantic yet methodical search brought scores of first responders to the banks of the rain swollen Pequannock River.

They searched desperately for little Thomas Chisholm.

"He was at the edge of the river bank and then he fell in. The river was quick moving and took him down stream in a hurry," Deputy Chief Michael Harry said.

The boy and his mother, police say, were playing in a side yard of their home at the end of a dead end street a little after 10:30 in the morning.

She turned her back for only a moment. That's when neighbors said they heard her frantic cries for help.

Searches were made of the banks in hopes the boy was pushed there by the strong currents in the river swelling after overnight rains, but it kept pushing the boy farther down stream where other rescuers started converging on a large pond in Beardsley Park in neighboring Bridgeport.

Rescuers pulled him from the water and rushed him to the hospital about 90 minutes after he had fallen into the river.
