NJ student charged with false campus assault claim

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.

Police say the 18-year-old woman from Williamsburg, Va., has been issued a summons for filing a false report to law enforcement officials and given a Dec. 6 court date.

The student's name has not been released. She faces a maximum possible penalty of six months in jail for the disorderly persons offense.

Officials said Friday that the student had changed her story after first reporting she'd been confronted by a male assailant on Nov. 16 while walking to her residence hall from a campus library.

Police said Tuesday their investigation found there had been no sexual assault on campus.
