The first candle was lit on the world's largest menorah in Midtown Manhattan.
They needed a cherry picker to reach the 32-foot-tall, two-ton candelabra.
There was also food and dancing at the Grand Army Plaza on Fifth Avenue and 59th Street.
The festival of lights is celebrated for eight days.
