'Pokey and Schleppie Awards' for bus service

If you are not in a rush, many New Yorkers say take the bus. If you need a nap, some might say try the M42.

The Straphangers Campaign and Transportation Alternatives has awarded the 42nd Street bus line this year's Pokey award as the systems slowest bus.

The M42 maintains an average rate of just 3.6 miles per hour during the noontime run, officially the system's slow bus. A lot of people could probably walk to where they need to go faster than the M42.

The slowest routes in the other four boroughs were the B35, the Bx19, the Q58 and S42. The Schleppie award for the least reliable bus went to the Bx41. The Straphangers added that the number of unreliable buses more than doubled from 4 in 2009 to 11 in 2010.
