Man breaks into teen's Long Island bedroom

GREAT NECK, NY

"It's scary to go to sleep," said a teenage neighbor of the victim.

Neighbors in the area are on edge.

Detectives say a burglar climbed through a window in the Great Neck home and attacked a 15-year-old girl sleeping in her own bedroom.

Investigators say she struggled and the man took off, running clear through the house, and out the back door.

Detectives say her screams awakened the girl's mother, but seconds later, the man was back.

The girl told investigators she did not recognize the man, and the motive remains a mystery.

Nothing was stolen.

The only clue was this distinctive baseball cap found beneath the girl's bed.

Police are hoping someone recognizes it and comes forward.

No one answered the door at the home Monday afternoon, but the neighborhood is bordered by multimillion dollar homes where crime is not usually a concern.

Police ask anyone with information to call crime stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.
