LI robbery suspect hit by car & killed

RONKONKOMA, NY

The subject was walking in the roadway of Veterans Memorial Highway near Lakeland Avenue in Ronkonkoma when he was struck by a 2004 Nissan Altima, driven by Anthony Hilton, that was headed eastbound approximately 6 p.m.

The subject was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Hilton, 63, of Shirley, and the occupant of his vehicle were not injured.

Following an investigation by Fifth Squad detectives, it was determined that the subject had robbed an individual inside of a hotel in Ronkonkoma at gunpoint and fled the scene on foot approximately 15 minutes before being struck by the vehicle.

Parts of the gun and the stolen cash were recovered at the scene of the crash. Identification of the subject is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
