Attempted LI home invasion ends with man shot

RIVERHEAD

Police responded to 210 Union Avenue in Riverhead at around 11:27 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a home invasion, where a man inside that residence was shot in the back.

Police determined that after the two unknown assailants forced entry into the residence, they began fighting with 34-year-old Vashon Barrow and his friend, 29-year-old Alfred Lee Marshall.

Police say another resident, 28-year-old Nessa Gilmore, retrieved a shotgun that was kept in the house for protection. While attempting to scare off the attackers, the shotgun accidentally discharged, striking Alfred Lee Marshall in the back.

He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and was treated for non life threatening injuries.

The two unknown intruders fled the residence and were not found.
